Special opening of the Norman Tower on the hill of ruins
Under King Frederick William IV, the Norman Tower—just under 23 meters high and modeled after a medieval watchtower—was built in 1846.

The Norman Tower enriched the landscape setting of the Ruinenberg, which had already been elaborately staged by Frederick the Great: a water basin, constructed to supply the fountains in Sanssouci Park, surrounded by an artistic arrangement of colossal columns, a Doric round temple, a pyramid, and a wall of ruins modeled after ancient theaters.
The panoramic view from the Norman Tower takes in a vista stretching from Peacock Island across Sanssouci Park all the way to Werder.
