What is real? Is the glass half full or half empty?

How we perceive reality depends on who we are, what we think, and what we believe to be true. Is mimesis merely a copy of reality—or can it create something independent that evokes longing, enthusiasm, or even contradiction?

Taking Gustav Courbet’s famous painting “The Stone Breakers” as a starting point, we’ll explore the depiction of reality in art in a relaxed atmosphere. We’ll also draw a connection to the current exhibition “Water, Waves, Wind, and More” by Ulrike Drobniewski at the oskar | galerie.

The “Kunstplausch” is an open event for anyone interested. Together, we’ll view selected works, exchange impressions, and discover new perspectives—no prior knowledge required. The focus is on curiosity, open dialogue, and the joy of discovering art together.

The presenter, Carolin Orlik, is a budding art historian, a volunteer at the oskar | galerie, and an artist herself. Through the “Kunstplausch,” she aims to make art accessible and vibrant, share her knowledge, and discover new approaches and ways of viewing art together with everyone who is curious about art.
