A Fairy-Tale Journey Around the World with Strong Heroines

On July 25, 2026, the Vorlese-Ensemble invites you to the Wolfdietrich Schnurre Library in Weißensee for a fairy tale reading for children ages 6 and up titled “Strong Daughters.”

Many fairy tales from a wide variety of countries tell the stories of girls who know how to stand their ground, whether they are rich or poor. What matters is courage, bravery, wisdom, and, last but not least, the power of love.

“Frau Holle” (Germany): Who doesn’t know Goldmarie? And if you don’t know her, you should get to know her.

“Besenstielchen” (Germany): A father brings his three daughters a gift from a journey. And with that, a turbulent story begins.

“Fanta Ghiro” (Italy): A girl goes to war disguised as a soldier in place of her father.

“Only the Gods Know” (China): A girl and a horse meet by chance. Only the gods know how it will end.
