A cabaret concert at the Komödie am Kurfürstendamm in the Ernst-Reuter-Saal

When columnist Harald Martenstein dissects the festive season, it becomes anything but contemplative. Amidst burning Christmas trees, lost angels in Berlin’s rush hour and people – on the brink of New Year’s Eve meltdown – an evening unfolds, brimming with black humour, sharp observation and surprising warmth.

Martenstein reads his funniest columns – incisive, personal, sometimes provocative, always precise. He is accompanied musically by Yellow Cello, an all-star band from Berlin and Dresden, who are equally at home in classical and jazz and who performed at the White House when a sensible president was still in office. The musicians lend Martenstein’s texts sound, depth and a soulful groove.

Far removed from comedy and cabaret, you can look forward to a sparkling evening of commentary that hits home, tickles the funny bone and delights.

Humour, a sense of recognition and a touch of unease go hand in hand here – a must-see for anyone who loves, fears or simply wants to understand Christmas and New Year’s Eve better.
