The fact that the people behind Berlin’s DIY concert scene are musically active themselves is not the exception, but the rule. They are all united by enthusiasm and the desire to take matters into their own hands.

Munsha
They strive to strengthen structures and shape culture, usually under very precarious conditions. The concert series Frictive Frequencies now brings some of the cultural activists who most often work behind the scenes into the spotlight.
Over the years, they have all developed remarkable forms of artistic expression, but have often taken a back seat in favor of their work as event organizers. Frictive Frequencies now brings the artistic side of these organizers to the forefront, thereby giving something back to this scene.
The series sees itself not only as a forum for improvised music but also as a space for communication and exchange about DIY practices. The invited guests present their own unique sonic languages and share their experiences in artistic and organizational practice during short talks.
Composer, cellist, and singer Munsha works with installations, multimedia, and at the intersection of theater and video art. During her college years, she was an active member of a vibrant punk and rock scene. This academic yet practical background continues to shape her artistic and curatorial practice to this day. In Munsha’s music, rhythmic energy and unconventional harmonies, concrete sound, and melody coexist. The range of her work extends from noise and drone music to abstract soundscapes, electronic music, and songwriting.
The Italian musician and curator DuChamp is passionately dedicated to drones. For her, sustained tones or sounds represent a music of comfort and are closely linked to childhood memories. Field recordings, which always relate to her personal biography, are an integral part of her musical work. DuChamp organizes the successful concert series “Sunday Matinée” in Berlin.
Using contact microphones, Lun Ário elicits sounds of immediate intimacy from repurposed musical instruments and other objects. These sounds, combined with field recordings and altered by effects, evolve into multi-layered textures. In 2018, Lun organized the “Strings Attached” concert and performance series together with a team. Since then, Lun Ário has regularly appeared as an organizer of performance and music events.
