HEIMAT_KUNST Festival Week

Discover this year’s HEIMAT_KUNST festival week, themed “The Power of Women.” From June 10 to 14, a variety of events will explore fundamental questions surrounding the experience of being a woman in society, from the early modern period to the present day.

The festival kicks off on June 10 with a gala opening, featuring a puppet theater performance about Valeska Gert titled “Die Katze von Kampen” and the opening of a new exhibition in collaboration with the Paul Klinger Künstlersozialwerk.

On June 11 and 12, the focus will be on early avant-garde women and exceptional female artists who have been forgotten. On June 13, you’ll see the centerpiece of this year’s festival week: the house premiere of “THE WITCHES OF BERNAU—On Enemy Images, Judicial Failures, and a Crime Against Humanity,” featuring Alina Gause, Carl Martin Spengler, and Matthias Behrsing. Based on historical documents regarding the witch hunts in Bernau, the play brings to life mechanisms that have much in common with our modern times.

This year’s festival week concludes with a gala finale on June 14, during which Tessniem Kadiri will read from her debut work “Baba Issues.”
