Nicolai, a psychology student obsessed with language, stumbles through body and mind, eros and insight, the abyss and humanity, caught between Nietzsche, Pink Floyd, and his own guilt.

From the bare room of a psychiatric institution, an inner monologue unfolds in which desire becomes philosophy, language becomes skin, and thought becomes the most dangerous form of feeling. Willi van Hengel’s new novel *Hautlichkeit* (2026) does not narrate, but makes tangible what happens beneath the skin.

On this evening, Willi van Hengel will present his new novel, speak with his publisher Kai Beisswenger about the sensual, the linguistic, and the abysmal, and read excerpts from “Hautlichkeit.”
