Lied and Poetry: Emily Dickinson
A mere ten of Emily Dickinson’s poems were published during her lifetime—even her family had no idea, until her death, that hundreds more manuscripts were waiting to be discovered in the writer’s desk.
Today, Dickinson is regarded as one of the most significant voices in American poetry, whose work continues to inspire Black and feminist artists to this day.
Accompanied by readings of the texts in the original English, Julia Kleiter and Julius Drake explore Dickinson’s musical legacy through settings by Florence Price, Margaret Bonds, Libby Larsen, George Walker, and others.
