Works by Mozart, Schoenberg, Schreker, and Haydn

Andreas Ottensamer, the long-time principal clarinetist of the Berlin Philharmonic, has also been performing as a conductor around the world for several years.

The four works in his program with the Staatskapelle Berlin are all connected to his hometown of Vienna:

Mozart conducted his Symphony in A major there in 1783, and Schoenberg began work on his Second Chamber Symphony in Vienna, which he did not complete until decades later in the United States.

Franz Schreker composed his Intermezzo shortly after graduating from the Vienna Conservatory.

Finally, Joseph Haydn spent the last years of his life in Vienna after years of serving as a Kapellmeister and undertaking celebrated tours abroad.
