Mortal Wounds: Songs by Schumann, Poulenc, Price, and Others
“That I bear mortal wounds—that is the work of men.” Justinus Kerner These lines, which Robert Schumann set to music in 1840 in his Kerner Songs, serve as the motto for the program—as demanding as it is fascinating—with which baritone Theodore Platt and pianist Keval Shah will make their debut at the Pierre Boulez Saal.
Through German, French, and American art songs spanning from the 19th century to the present, the two London-based artists explore the themes of suffering and reconciliation.
