that reality itself is a script that shatters before our eyes.

NOT NOW presents itself as a documentary in which a series of celebrities with extraordinary qualities reflect on the nature of “presence.” In a stylized interview setting, they speak with charisma and conviction about topics ranging from personal experiences to the cultural absurdities of today’s world.

But as the questions become more personal and the silence grows eerie, the facade begins to crumble. Without giving anything away directly, the film gradually suggests that these figures are not who they claim to be, but ordinary people embodying fictional roles and struggling to maintain their grandiose identities under pressure and close scrutiny.

As tensions rise—breakdowns, meltdowns, confrontations—the boundary between fiction and reality dissolves.

NOT NOW is not a record of truth in the conventional sense, but an experience of perception. Constantly shifting between documentary and fiction, objectivity and subjectivity, presence and pretense, the film questions the authority of the screen and the narratives that shape reality. The result is a provocative, self-reflexive experience that not only explains presence—it stages it.

Biography and Statement by the Director Taner Tümkaya is a filmmaker and multidisciplinary artist who explores the boundaries between reality and fiction.

With an MFA in Interdisciplinary Arts (Städelschule Frankfurt), his work combines narrative, observation, and performance. His projects have been supported by the Dresdner Bank Fellowship and the Hessian Cultural Foundation, and he has directed films and music videos as well as curated art and fashion exhibitions in Los Angeles and Berlin.

A 6-hour audiovisual journey that mirrors the structure of the film—an atmospheric foundation, rising tension, and thrilling climaxes.
