Guided tour through the history of laundry

W. Spindler – An S-Bahn station and a neighborhood in Köpenick are still named after this family-owned business today.

Since 1873, the laundry and dyeing company on the Upper Spree has developed into one of Berlin’s most important industrial sites. Today, a new residential neighborhood, Wasserstadt Spindlersfeld, is being built on the former factory grounds.

This walking tour takes you to some of the most important sites in Köpenick’s laundry history.

This tour is part of the 2026 Long Week of Neighborhood History under the theme “Street History(ies).” Presented by the Berlin Regional Museums.
