“Listen inwardly and take your time”: With this approach, violinist Christian Tetzlaff sets out to interpret Dmitri Shostakovich’s Second Violin Concerto.
The work is a fascinating example of the composer’s late style: the dialogue between orchestra and violin unfolds with delicate precision before both tumble into an expressive, dance-like finale. In contrast to this contemplative work stands Sergei Prokofiev’s Fifth Symphony. Composed as a “hymn to the free and happy human being,” it unfolds the full splendor of the orchestral sound—from the majestic opening to the driving, ecstatic finale.
