Silvesterkonzert

With humor and irony, Kirill Petrenko and the Berlin Philharmonic bid farewell to the year 2026. The program is framed by the lively overtures to Otto Nicolai’s *The Merry Wives of Windsor* and Johann Strauss’s *The Gypsy Baron*.

In his Concerto for Piano and Trumpet, Dmitri Shostakovich brilliantly satirizes the concerto genre.

The soloists are Alexander Malofeev, making his debut with the Philharmonic, and principal trumpeter David Guerrier.

Sergei Prokofiev, in turn, humorously plays with the traditions of the Viennese Classical period in his “Symphonie classique,” while Richard Strauss, in his tone poem Till Eulenspiegel, portrays the title character at times with a wink, at times with a delight in the grotesque.
