Les Amoureuses | French chansons with warmth, humor, and poetic depth
It was love at first sight: Les Amoureuses (“the lovers”) are a new Berlin duo who have dedicated themselves heart and soul to the diversity of French chansons.
Singer and guitarist Judith Antkowiak, who grew up in a musical family in Dresden and is also active as a solo artist, joins forces here with Ernestine Luise, a Berlin-based singer who spent her childhood and youth in France and discovered her love for the accordion while training to become a piano tuner.
Together, the two interpret French classics such as the romantic “La vie en rose,” the ruggedly charming “Accordéon,” as well as more recent chansons, such as “Le premier bonheur du jour” by Françoise Hardy.
At times they take turns singing; at others, Judith’s alto voice and Ernestine’s soprano blend in a gentle embrace, complemented by delicate guitar playing and a richly colored accordion.
The warm humor and lightheartedness that the duo exudes blend with poetry and emotional depth in the chansons. In this way, the musicians bring moving stories to life, touch the heart, and offer an inspiring concert experience to an audience—not just those with a particular fondness for all things French.
