Moabit Chamber Choir
The Moabiter Chamber Choir, accompanied by Johanna Zmeck on the piano, will perform choral works from the 19th to the 21st centuries, each of which illuminates a special moment through sound.
Church music is accustomed to creating a spiritual framework; in this concert, for example, the “Sanctus” (“Holy”) from a mass by Steve Dobrogosz or a Kyrie choral setting based on Beethoven’s famous Moonlight Sonata.
For some, however, “Earth is sacred” (Clemens Garbe, 2023) or “Vårnatt” (“Spring Night”) by Wilhelm Stenhammar (1912) may speak more deeply to the soul.
Additional Swedish choral works, as well as the experimental “Fire” and “Earth” by Canadian composer Katerina Gimon, will also explore the church’s acoustic possibilities, offering the audience their own special moments.
The Moabiter Chamber Choir of the Evangelical Parish of Tiergarten in Berlin has existed since 2024 and enthusiastically performs sacred music at a high artistic level in church services and concerts. The program includes choral works from all eras, ranging from the Renaissance to contemporary choral music, gospel, jazz, and pop. The diversity of choirs in the parish enables interesting collaborations: for example, in December 2026, Bach’s Christmas Oratorio will be performed both as a classical concert and as a nativity play featuring children’s and youth choirs.
As cantor of the Evangelical Parish of Tiergarten, Almut Stümke directs the children’s, youth, and chamber choirs and leads confirmation students and other parishioners in singing.
She is also the regional choir director for the EKBO regional church and, in this capacity, serves as a specialist advisor responsible for providing guidance and continuing education opportunities for choir directors and other church staff, as well as for promoting singing with children and the congregation.
