Stylistically situated somewhere between chanson, pop, and musical cabaret, Pasquale Aleardi and the Phonauten perform with great enthusiasm, using a wide array of instruments and creative effects. Aleardi, known to many as “Commissar Dupin,” reveals himself here as a passionate singer and performer of “antidepressant music.”

With the Phonauten Spike and Mary—two modern-day sound sailors—he finds energetic companions for a cheerful parade in search of inner contentment.

Of course, human weaknesses and quirks also come to light, laid bare before the audience with shameless delight. But before envy, malice, or stubbornness gain the upper hand, they are charmingly swept away by another musical gem.

Thus, the show evokes the life of a musician who drives away the gloom day after day with the power of music. Happiness cannot be promised—but a path to it can. In the end, the guests take a smile home with them and wonder how quickly two hours can pass.
