The play is based on TBMM transcripts and is a kind of documentary. Originally conceived as a six-hour documentary by Murat Karahüseyinoğlu and later adapted for the stage, it owes its title to the film “12 Angry Men.”
The sentencing hearings began on March 10, 1972. The military court that had sentenced Deniz Gezmiş, Yusuf Arslan, and Hüseyin İnan to death “deemed it appropriate to leave the judgment of these matters to the public conscience, history, and the discretion and authority of the TBMM” and referred the case to the TBMM. The executions were approved by the National Assembly, published in the Official Gazette on May 5, 1972, with the President’s signature, and carried out on the morning of May 6.
“The way in which the ideas and the movement of Deniz Gezmiş, Yusuf Arslan, and Hüseyin İnan were perceived, defended, or condemned by the government and its supporters at the time is described by the deputies themselves.”
