A Photographer in Exile
In collaboration with the Wiener Holocaust Library in London, the Liebermann Villa presents the work of the German-Jewish photographer Gerty Simon (1887–1970). After 90 years, her expressive photographs will be exhibited again in Berlin. Her technically brilliant recordings show important personalities of the Weimar Republic, including well-known faces such as Max Liebermann. Original photo prints, historical press reviews and personal archive material trace Simon's path from the beginning of her career and success in the Weimar Republic, the prepared flight from Nazi Germany to British exile, her strategic new beginning to the safekeeping of her estate in London.
