Excursion to Mies' Lemke House, the Bauhaus Archive and the Federal School in Berlin

Despite UNESCO World Heritage status comparatively unknown, the Federal School of the General German Trade Union Federation in Bernau is one of THE Bauhaus buildings par excellence. Not only was it designed by Bauhaus director Hannes Meyer, but numerous Bauhaus members were also involved in its construction. An impressive school complex with residential and teaching buildings for living and learning in community has been created here. The light brick architecture develops exciting references to the idyllic surroundings in the middle of a pine grove with a pond. Since the Bundesschule is otherwise difficult to reach, a charter bus will be used for the Berlin-Bernau excursion.
The trip is also a tour of the three directors: it begins at the Bauhaus Archive (Walter Gropius) and leads via Ludwig Mies van der Rohe's surprisingly modest and all the more impressive Villa Lemke to Meyer's Bundesschule.
