The Jazz Festival of the Paul Hindemith Music School is one of the great cultural highlights of Neukölln: top ensembles of the preparatory training "Jazz" of the Music School play in alternation with top-class formations of the Neukölln jazz lecturers and prize winners of the young talent competition "StuVo-Jazz-Contest" in alternation with lecturers of several German jazz colleges.
As one of the program highlights on Friday, Wolfgang Köhler (piano), Peter Weniger (saxophone) and Marc Secara (vocals), three of Germany's best-known jazz musicians and professors, will perform highlights from the Great American Songbook.
On the second day of the festival, Neukölln music school lecturer and jazz virtuoso Ulli Bartel will present the mandolin as the instrument of 2023, before international stars of jazz music take to the stage of the Kulturstall with Gregor Huebner, professor of composition and jazz violin, and his Berlin Friends. In addition, the prizewinner concert of the "StuVo Jazz Contest" will once again provide high excitement on this evening.
The matinée concert on Sunday is dedicated to the large formations of the Neukölln Music School. The Jazzorchester Neue Welt plays under the motto "Album 2022 plus" and presents, among other things, titles of its latest audio production. For the crowning finale of the Jazzfest Neukölln, the Flintstones Big Band will once again bring Gregor Huebner to the stage of the Kulturstall as a "very special guest" and present his demanding and varied original compositions for big band instrumentation.
For the first time since its inception, the Jazzfest is open to all music lovers free of charge. "Pay what you can - your admission as a donation" is intended to give everyone access to an enjoyable evening after the privations of the last two years during this challenging time.
Culinary accompaniment to the Jazzfest will be provided by the resident restaurant Buchholz Gutshof Britz.
We wish you exciting musical experiences at our Jazzfest Neukölln 2023!
