Stand out with clothing? Create a fashion trend? It was no different 500 years ago. Both men and women wanted to stand out with expensive or special clothing. The city authorities issued dress codes to put a stop to extravagance.
Selected Cranach paintings are used to trace fashion in the early modern period. Examples of clothing items brought along provide an insight into the clothing and clothing layers of this period.
