In collaboration between Gropius Bau and MaerzMusik 2026 / Berliner Festspiele, Spätschicht x C/O Berlin presents Gary Schneider's short film Salters Cottages, followed by a performance by composer and violinist Biliana Voutchkova.

Made in 1981 by the photographer and artist, the film explores the tension between seeing and being seen. Through a fragmentary narrative style, it depicts several individuals (Peter Hujar, John Erdman, Suzanne Joelson, and Gary Stephan) in the roles of voyeurs and the observed, encountering one another in the close-knit housing estate. The 16-minute film is an homage to Jean Genet's Un Chant d'Amour (1950), which, through the relationship between two prisoners and a warden, examines themes of intimacy, passion, voyeurism, and violence.

Biliana Voutchkova uses the film as a basis for a musical exploration, responding to Salters Cottages with violin, voice, and objects. Resonating with the film's visual and narrative atmosphere, the musician's interventions focus on perception and intimacy, while also forming part of her ongoing exploration of ambiguity.
