Exile in her luggage. The life of graphic artist Lea Grundig

Graphic artist Lea Grundig led a life marked by exile, art and political conviction. As a Jew and a communist, she was expelled by the Nazis and began translating reports about the Holocaust into haunting images at an early age, while also shaping the visual culture of Palestine and the GDR.

In her biography, historian Jeannette van Laak paints a portrait of a controversial, headstrong and sensitive artist, also exploring the relationship between Lea and her husband Hans Grundig.
