Angela Merkel presents the book "On the Streets of Tehran"—a powerful account by an Iranian writer who must remain anonymous for security reasons.
Against the backdrop of the "Women.Life.Freedom." protests, the author courageously and personally describes the daily life of the resistance, the omnipresent repression, and the hope for change. She recounts how she and other women fight for their rights, accompanied by constant fear—threatened and intimidated by the notorious morality police, who arrest, torture, and kill indiscriminately. She interweaves her experiences with the long history of female self-assertion in Iran, painting a picture of a society that, despite all the dangers, is increasingly determined to stand up for freedom and human rights.
"On the Streets of Tehran" by Nila, translated by Asal Dardan, with a foreword by Natalie Amiri, will be published in February 2026. The subsequent discussion with Natalie Amiri and Asal Dardan will explore the political, cultural, and personal dimensions of the protest movement. They speak about exile and belonging, about international responsibility, and about the enduring longing of many people for a free life.
An event about courage and the power of civil society resistance.
