In Reinickendorf, the New Year is traditionally ushered in with festive brass music on the steps of the historic town hall portal.

In front of the town hall tower at Antonyplatz in Wittenau, musicians from Protestant congregations play joyful and contemplative pieces for listening and singing along, their sounds carrying far beyond the square.

The town hall's facade is atmospherically illuminated by Heiligensee-based lighting designer Andreas Boehlke, lending the evening a special ambiance.

Following the New Year's address by District Mayor Emine Demirbüken-Wegner, Superintendent Thomas Harms offers a spiritual reflection for the turn of the year. Together with Sigmount Königsberg, Commissioner for Antisemitism of the Jewish Community of Berlin, and Islamic theologian Kübra Dalkılıç, representatives of three world religions convey their New Year's greetings – a visible sign of unity, respect, and lived diversity in Reinickendorf.

The brass ensemble of the Reinickendorf church district, under the direction of Sabine Schmidt, will present atmospheric and comforting arrangements of folk and pop songs, including "Über den Wolken" (Above the Clouds), "O Happy Day," "What a Wonderful World," and "Der Mond ist aufgegangen" (The Moon Has Risen).

In previous years, this special New Year's Eve tradition has attracted hundreds of visitors, some from the surrounding area. The tradition has continued since 2022.

Those who wish can enjoy mulled wine or children's punch, served by members of the Alt-Wittenau Evangelical Church community, and get into the spirit of 2026 in a convivial atmosphere.

Admission is free.
