“Female Band Leader Jazz Row” is a concert series curated by pianist and keyboardist Svetlana Marinchenko, who invites exciting female band leaders from Berlin and other cities to perform on stage.

The artists are selected primarily on the basis of their distinctive musical sound and individual artistic signature.

The series presents both established musicians with remarkable successes in the music scene and new, promising voices that bring fresh impetus.

Each guest artist is a creative personality with her own vision and a special approach to music. The concerts offer the audience top-class musicians, new music, and an inspiring, lively atmosphere.

Fiona Grond is one of the most exciting voices of a young European jazz generation. Born near Zurich, the singer and composer moved to Munich a good ten years ago to study jazz singing and composition. What began as training quickly developed into an artistic home—and a starting point for a career that has long since taken her beyond the borders of Germany.

In 2018, Grond founded the trio “Interspaces” together with saxophonist Moritz Stahl and guitarist Philipp Schiepek – an ensemble that combines musical freedom, poetic chamber music, and experimental sound. With their second album “Poesias,” released on the renowned ACT label, the trio confirms its unmistakable sound and artistic relevance. The trio has received multiple awards for their debut album “Interspaces” (2021) and their concert performances, including the Jazz Prize of the City of Halle, first place in the Women in Jazz competition, and third place in the international JazzBeet competition at the Jazzfest Bonn. In 2020, Grond received the Leonard and Ida Wolf Memorial Prize, followed in 2024 by the Music Scholarship of the City of Munich—another important recognition of her artistic work.
In addition to her trio, she is currently pursuing a duo project with pianist Luca Zambito, with whom she performs throughout Germany. In 2026, the duo will release their first joint album, “Time Waves.” Her musical versatility is also reflected in engagements with formations such as the Christian Elsässer Jazz Orchestra and the Jazzrausch Big Band. With the Svetlana Marinchenko Trio, she has performed regularly on stages in Germany and abroad, including a tour of Russia. In 2019, she was also selected by the New York Voices as a scholarship recipient for their renowned Vocal Camp.

Grond's musical talent became apparent at an early age: transverse flute, guitar, and classical singing shaped her first steps before she finally turned her attention entirely to jazz. At the University of Music and Performing Arts Munich, she studied with Sanni Orasmaa, Anne Czichowsky, Gregor Hübner, and Christian Elsässer, among others. She also gained significant inspiration from workshops and collaborations with international icons such as Bobby McFerrin, Sheila Jordan, Theo Bleckmann, Ben Monder, Diana Torto, Jen Shyu, and the New York Voices. With her clear voice, melodic sensitivity, and an artistic signature that constantly seeks new paths, Fiona Grond has established herself as a striking personality on the jazz scene—alert, independent, and open to the unpredictable.
