Democracy History Day

Fatma is here now. In a foreign country, with a permanent job in a factory and a small room to sleep, eat and dream of a better life. But: alone. She set off for a foreign country without any family or friends.

Can she reinvent herself without abandoning her old connections? Fortunately, there is Fatoş, Fatma's other side and her complete opposite: carefree, free and party-loving. Together, the two can argue, get along, work hard, take breaks and sometimes forget everything and everyone else and follow unknown melodies.

Fatma & Fatoş is an opera project by Selam Opera and Berlin contemporary witnesses.
It is based on the memories of women who came to Germany with courage and fought for social participation here. Major life themes such as home, identity, prejudice and self-awareness are found in this play, told through the example of a fictional character and treated with a wink.

In cooperation with the Komische Oper Berlin
