Lights off: Together for a living planet

Every year in March, millions of people around the world take part in Earth Hour and switch off their lights to show their support for our planet.

Earth Hour, probably the best-known climate protection campaign in the world, takes place again on 28 March. Every year at the end of March, the lights are switched off for one hour at famous monuments (such as the Empire State Building in New York or the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin), businesses and private homes.

Earth Hour is also celebrated in Berlin: At 8:30 p.m. sharp, the lights go out for one hour in many places.

Earth Hour is an open action and we welcome everyone to join in and help amplify our mission to unite people to protect our planet.

Earth Hour was launched in 2007 by WWF and its partners as a symbolic lights-out event in Sydney and is now one of the world's largest grassroots movements for the environment. But Earth Hour goes far beyond the symbolic action of switching off - it has become a catalyst for positive environmental impact, driving important legislative change by harnessing people power and collective action.
