3rd event in the series “Subversive Art? – On Resistance Through Accusation and Escape”
Standing upright in the Second German Dictatorship was just as necessary as in the first, because dictatorships deprive people of their freedom and thus their dignity. “Freedom and dignity are always concrete,” writes the author Herta Müller. People protested in order to preserve their dignity. This protest took many forms and found its strongest expression in art.
What significance does the Second German Dictatorship have for our country today? Do we not need shared goals in order to shape the future together? But this requires not only a general idea of ourselves and our country; we must also learn to identify with one another’s past. Only those who have a past have a future, and only if we share a common past can we share a common future.
