STEAMBOAT BILL, JR. – A silent movie live with orchestra

A silent movie concert with METROPOLIS ORCHESTER BERLIN, Marc Hosemann, and Aline von Drateln.

Steamboat Bill, Jr.” is one of Buster Keaton’s greatest comedies. It was the final film Keaton produced independently before he was forced to join MGM—a move that ended his impressive streak of short and feature-length comedies. The film features what is arguably the most dangerous stunt in cinematic history: the entire facade of a two-story house collapses onto Buster Keaton, who survives only because he is positioned directly under an open window. This was filmed without any camera tricks; had his position been off by just a few centimeters, it would have been fatal.

The METROPOLIS ORCHESTER BERLIN, conducted by Burkhard Götze, will bring the film to life with a score full of wit and spirit, arranged exclusively for the orchestra by silent film music legend Robert Israel.

Special Highlight on March 21st: The evening will be presented by film patron and Keaton fan Marc Hosemann. In conversation with moderator Aline von Drateln, he will talk about his love for "The Great Stone Face" and also present his own short silent film, “Koks Jedentag geht zur Arbeit” (2017).

This film concert is produced in close cooperation with the Ernst-Lubitsch-Preis.
