Reading and discussion at the Romanisches Café (in German)
Among the guests of the Romanisches Café was the Ullstein editor and writer Paul Wiegler, who had worked with Kafka, Kisch, and Werfel in Prague and, after the war, founded the literary journal "Sinn und Form" with Johannes R. Becher.
His literary estate, housed in the archive of the Academy of Arts, included the novel "Gabriele," written in Berlin in 1945: a coming-of-age story of a young woman in the dying days of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, whose "almost too great mastery" Peter Handke praises. The book and its author will be presented with previously unseen photographs and historical audio recordings.
With Sandra Leupold (reading), Gernot Krämer (editor), and Michael Bienert (moderator).
