An old tape recorder with only one reel is the only evidence of composer Shaul Bustan's musical ancestors. His great-grandfather from Iran played traditional instruments and sang Persian folk music at the king's court. His other great-grandfather, born in Romania, was an opera lover and brought Yiddish songs and folklore to the people with his guitar.

Under the title ‘Echoes between the Seas’, Shaul Bustan's compositions unfold, weaving together subtle timbres from the Orient and the Occident. Bustan, a virtuoso on the oriental short-necked lute oud, draws on his cultural roots as well as classical and contemporary music. His works tell stories full of poetry, passion and vitality.

The Shaul Bustan Trio – with Shaul Bustan (oud), Julia Czerniawska (violin) and Lillia Keyes (cello) – has already graced renowned stages throughout Germany: from Radialsystem Berlin to the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival, the Elbphilharmonie Kulturcafé in Hamburg, the French Cathedral in Berlin and the Jewish Music and Theatre Week in Dresden.

The three virtuosos invite you to a concert of a special kind: fascinating new sounds, thrilling improvisations and music that tells stories – between the seas, between cultures, straight to the heart.
