Learning to shape futures

The future is uncertain – but we can make it tangible. At the Open Lab evening "Futures Prototyping," you'll learn how we can explore and bring to life alternative futures using speculative design and future artifacts.

Speculative design uses the method of futures prototyping to create visual and physical designs of possible future scenarios. These designs open up new perspectives, stimulate debate, and help us develop our own visions. These methods allow us to playfully consider possible developments – and actively participate in shaping the future.

Participants will explore the question of what agriculture will look like in the future and who will cultivate the land.

Agriculture provides people with food and shapes landscapes as well as social structures. At the same time, it is undergoing change: New actors, technologies, and concepts are gaining importance and are already shaping the image of tomorrow's agriculture. They demonstrate the diversity of changes in agriculture – and how important it is to think through future scenarios in concrete terms.

The workshop will focus on the question of what agriculture will look like in the future and who will cultivate the land. In this workshop, everyone will explore agriculture in the year 2040:

-> Which areas will be cultivated?

-> How will the social and cultural role of agriculture change?

-> How will the work of farmers change?

Together, everyone will experiment with different methods, develop scenarios, explore future ways of living – and, like time travelers, take their own souvenirs from the future.

This event is part of the workshop series "Learning to Shape Futures," which takes place once a month as part of the Open Lab evening. In a total of four modules, you will learn well-founded methods for shaping the future, which you can compile into your own individual toolkit for future-oriented methods.
