Learning to shape the future

The future is uncertain – but people can make it tangible. At the "Futures Prototyping" Open Lab evening, you will learn how people can explore and make tangible alternative futures with speculative design and future artifacts.

Speculative design uses the method of futures prototyping for visual and material designs of possible future scenarios. They open up new perspectives, stimulate debate, and help develop your own visions. These methods enable you to think playfully about possible developments – and actively participate in shaping the future yourself.

Participants will explore the question of what agriculture will look like in the future and who will farm the land.

Agriculture provides food and shapes landscapes as well as social structures. At the same time, it is undergoing change: New actors, technologies, and concepts are gaining importance and are already shaping the image of tomorrow's agriculture. They demonstrate how diverse the changes in agriculture are – and how important it is to think through future scenarios in concrete terms.

In this workshop, participants will look at agriculture in 2040:

• Which areas will be cultivated?
• How will the social and cultural role of agriculture change?
• How will the work of farmers change?

Together, everyone will experiment with different methods, design scenarios, explore future living environments – and, as time travelers, take our own souvenirs from the future with them.

This event is part of the workshop series "Learning to Shape the Future," which takes place once a month as part of the Open Lab evening. In a total of four modules, you will learn sound methods for shaping the future, which you can compile into your own individual future toolbox.
