Drawings by the Gegenwind painting group

The Gegenwind counselling centre has been operating in Berlin since 1998. It offers counselling and assistance to people who are still suffering from the consequences of trauma experienced during the SED dictatorship. Services include psychosocial counselling, therapeutic discussion groups and body-based methods such as yoga.

An important component is the therapeutic painting group, which has been in existence since 2007. It is about artistic and creative expression of experiences – including those that cannot be put into words. Figurative and abstract techniques open up individual ways of processing these experiences.

The exhibition shows works by the five active members of the painting group. They have developed their own style. In this way, they impressively convey their confrontation with their own past, how they deal with it in the present and their view of the future.
