In this concert, the RSB, conducted by its principal conductor Vladimir Jurowski, presents two of the most important works in music education.

In the ‘musical orchestra guide’ Young Person's Guide to the Orchestra, individual instruments come to the fore one after the other. The idea of introducing young people to the sound of a symphony orchestra is realised in this composition in an entertaining and playful way.

Programme:

Benjamin Britten
The Young Person's Guide to the Orchestra, Op. 34, variations and fugue on a theme by Henry Purcell

Paul Dukas
L'Apprenti sorcier (The Sorcerer's Apprentice) – tone poem for large orchestra based on Goethe's ballad of the same name
