The music of Berlin-based composer and double bassist Jaspar Libuda exists at the intersection of neo-classical music, film music, and soundscapes.

Jaspar Libuda's compositions are classical soundscapes, musical stories without words, a declaration of love for melody and the deep emotions it can evoke. He is known for his catchy, personal, and always clearly recognizable compositional style, as well as his sensitive and virtuoso bowing on his main instrument, the five-string double bass.

His latest live ensemble is the duo with his longtime guitarist Florian Segelke, with whom he has played for over 15 years in the Jaspar Libuda Trio. Using a five-string double bass with a high C string specially built for him, Jaspar Libuda creates timbres reminiscent of cello, percussion, guitar, and oud. With his eight-string classical guitar, electronic effects, and various strumming techniques, guitarist Florian Segelke creates a sound spectrum that oscillates between rich bass, powerfully distorted, and delicate guitar tones.

Together, the two musicians interweave melodies and silence into a dense world of sound, simultaneously melancholic and full of joie de vivre. A state of suspension between styles and genres. A crossing of the boundaries between classical, minimal music, jazz, pop, and soundscapes. A combination of virtuoso instrumental artistry and electroacoustic music. The soundtrack to an imaginary film with bright and dark themes. In his new compositions, Jaspar Libuda expresses his love of minimal music and Gregorian chant in equal measure. The Berlin duo creates spaces in which time seems to expand from a fraction of a moment into a universe of sonic possibilities.
