Every metre covered on the Wall Trail is reminiscent of the painful German-German border. Where until 1989 the Wall and barbed wire separated people from each other, 100 miles of Berlin leads on the former patrol path of the GDR border troops in a large circle around western Berlin.

Since 2011, the Wall Trail has commemorated the victims of the former border that divided Germany between 1961 and 1989. The route runs along the former border strip, which is just over 161 kilometres around western Berlin.

In 2025, the Wall Trail Run will take place on August 16 and 17. This time, the running direction will be clockwise.
