In Search of the Blue Flower

An interdisciplinary dialogue entitled ‘Piano meets Poetry’ brings music and literature together in two evening events in Potsdam and Berlin. Entitled In Search of the Blue Flower, the programme features piano improvisations by Nicola Grüning, which interact with spoken texts selected and interpreted by Giuliana Fanelli.

The focus will be on the lyrical works of key figures of German Romanticism, including Eichendorff, Novalis, Bettina von Arnim, Brentano, Nietzsche and Goethe. The 'blue flower' serves as a leitmotif for romantic longing, the pursuit of knowledge, and the ideal of worldly experience conveyed through art.

The events create a resonance space for the literary texts, which take on new nuances through musical interpretation. The concept reflects questions of the individual's search for meaning, artistic inspiration, and the possibilities of contemporary engagement with historical texts.

The combination of music and drama provides an accessible, both aesthetic and discursive, approach to Romantic ideas.
