For the sixth time, PLATFORM 14 brings international dance art to the Uferstudios Berlin. Selected pieces, collaborative workshops, and cross-genre diversity create an inspiring festival where artists share their passion for dance with the audience.
Program
Jack Strömberg – Beginnings
Duration: 15 min
This humorous work deliberately plays with expectations of stage presence and performance. Using diverse compositional techniques and a deliberately distracting, playful performativity, the dancer presents a precisely crafted choreography with meticulous timing. He manages to guide the audience through shifting emotions, from frustration to hilarity. The production engages the audience in a sophisticated game with temporal sequences that suggests predictability, yet always offers new, unexpected surprises.
Yuexuan Gui – Norm Practice
Duration: 9 min
The duet explores the themes of objectification and dehumanization in the context of social norms. Based on the concept of using the other person's body parts as objects, the production addresses key questions:
Can social norms actually be measured? How can control be exercised over something that eludes control? And what consequences arise when an "object" gets out of control?
Nantea Dance Company – A MOMENT - WAKATI
Duration: 20 min
A MOMENT - WAKATI uses images, dance, and music to demonstrate how people can find support, care, and comfort in the moments they share and experience with others in their everyday lives, given our shared experiences.
BREAK
Samira Aakcha & Yuki Takahashi – Orb. 2.0
Duration: 20 min
How is collective coexistence possible without losing individuality? The work focuses on strategies for dealing with current social challenges such as fear, anger, or insecurity through mutual support and attentive listening.
They must allow themselves to treat each other empathetically and view interpersonal interaction as an opportunity for relief.
The audience is invited to immerse themselves in rhythm, movement, and flow, connecting with their emotional bodies and sensations.
Frantics Dance Company – When no one sees
Duration: 13 min
The choreography explores the theme of brotherly affection, a form of love that gradually develops and builds. The affection between men: unspoken, often awkward, often misunderstood.
It requires neither attention nor grand gestures. It exists in silence: a reaching hand, a shared rhythm, an attempt to pick someone up from the ground, again and again.
Brotherly affection is the love between equals. It signals: I see you. I recognize you. You are here too. It's based neither on need, attraction, nor any form of blood relationship, but solely on respect for one another.
"When No One Sees" invites you to experience what appreciation, affection, and love might look like when no one is watching.
90 minutes plus a 15-minute intermission
