The cantata BWV 20 was composed in 1724, with which J.S. Bach began his second year in Leipzig. It is based on Johann Rist's hymn (1642), which interprets the parable of the rich man and poor Lazarus (Luke 16). With his music, Bach calls for "drastic repentance and renunciation of the world."
The five verses of the chorale are recited at the chapels and gravestones. They "naturally" stop at famous figures such as Neanderthals and Ermeler, but also at peculiarities and hidden treasures.
At the end, everyone is invited to the winter church "Auferstehung" (Resurrection) (Friedenstraße 83) to warm up with coffee and tea and to enjoy the music of "Eternity, you word of thunder!"
