literary evening walk

When Heinrich Heine studied in Berlin in 1821-23, he witnessed important cultural events, attended Hegel's lectures and socialized in Rahel Varnhagen's salon.

Heine regretted that he did not make the acquaintance of E. T. A. Hoffmann, who died during this time.

This time, the walk focuses on Heine's relationships with important contemporaries. It leads from the university via Bebelplatz and Gendarmenmarkt to Mauerstraße, where Kleist, Brentano and Achim von Arnim stayed and Rahel Varnhagen held her last salon.

Author, cultural journalist and expert on Berlin's city history Michael Bienert has been leading literary tours in Berlin for over 25 years.

We meet in front of the main entrance of the Humboldt University, Unter den Linden 6.
