Berlin Südkreuz Station
If you’re travelling to Berlin by long-distance or regional trains, you can easily change here to the well-developed S-Bahn and bus network. From Südkreuz, you can take the S2 and S25 S-Bahn lines, for example, travelling north-south.
The circular S41 and S42 services, the S45 to Schönefeld Airport and the S46 to Königs Wusterhausen will take you to almost all of Berlin’s southern districts. On the station forecourt, you can board buses on routes M46, 106 and 204.
Station of the Future
Deutsche Bahn is trialling new concepts for sustainable mobility at Südkreuz station. For example, the station’s roof features a wind turbine and solar panels that track the sun’s path. A micro smart grid stores the energy temporarily before it is used to charge electric cars and e-bikes.
Inside the station, there are also electronic platform display boards and mobility monitors providing real-time information on S-Bahn and bus departures, as well as car-sharing vehicles and hire bikes.
Sightseeing around Berlin Südkreuz
There are several attractions to explore in the immediate vicinity of the station. The SA Prison on Papestraße, for example, is just a few minutes’ walk away. You can also walk to the Gasometer, though it’s a bit quicker and more convenient to take the Ringbahn one stop west to Schöneberg station.
Heading east, on the other hand, Tempelhof station is just one S-Bahn stop away. Once you arrive there, Tempelhofer Feld stretches out before you. The former airport site, which Berliners now use as a huge leisure area, is definitely worth the short detour.
