It is impossible to sum up the subject of Nobel Prize winner Peter Handke’s latest text in a pithy, concise phrase. In a kind of poetic exploration, a poet traverses the world, and the world traverses him.
In this encounter, language is the event—a song, or rather a melody—in search of an echo, a counterpart. “Or maybe not.” The one who is constantly speaking, fooling around, dreaming, and marveling—he’s playing with us. Until he disappears and someone else takes over.
