Inspired by Reiner Maria Matysik's conceptual photo and video works exploring the relationship between humans and great apes, the children embark on an experimental role-playing game. What if humans and apes had offspring together? How would this species move, communicate, and feel? What would it be like to be an ape-man?
For 90 minutes, the group transforms into a troop of ape-men:
• Human language is abandoned – communication occurs solely through sounds.
• Locomotion changes – the space is explored on all fours.
• Stylized masks create new, hybrid beings.
Together, the children explore the exhibition from the perspective of curious primates. Unusual images emerge: ape-like creatures with headphones, sitting in front of screens, perched on tables, peeling tangerines, or sipping banana juice – a blend of play, performance, and art experiment.
The event is videotaped by Reiner Maria Matysik. A compilation will be presented at the closing event of the exhibition at the ZAK.
