Musical and cabaret-style summer feelings ...

That spring and summer feeling—who doesn’t know it?

That sudden surge of joy at the arrival of the warm season. Everything’s bursting with life out there—and often our own feelings along with it.

Welcome to this evening of music and cabaret featuring the Berlin chanson artist “Chanson-Nette” Jeannette Urzendowsky and Harry Ermer on piano and harmonica—about anticipation, butterflies in the stomach, one person’s sneezing fits and another’s exercise binges, about long days, crazy cyclists and drivers, kids’ birthday parties in the park, and walking the dog—in short, about everything that keeps sun-hungry Berliners and their guests on their toes.

“When the scooters zip by again,” sang the popular 1920s comedienne Claire Waldoff; the “Fabulous Bar Girls” of the 1980s sang about sunburn—“...instead of breasts, I’ve got tomatoes now...” Cabaret artist Friedhelm Kändler declaims: “Sweet season of allergies, when people flee their defenses.” And his “A Snail’s View of the World” turns everything upside down.

The Tagesspiegel writes about Chanson-Nette:

“There are few artists who can

so convincingly.”

Additional information

THE THEATER AM FRANKFURTER TOR: Right in the foyer, you head straight for the bar. “Come on in, take a look around,” reads the sign on the counter. Now, take a quick right to the cozy theater auditorium—or rather, little auditorium. A unique living-room-style theater with brown-red walls and cushioned seats, comfortably seating about 90 guests. Let the show begin: Welcome to Johannes Hallervorden’s “Theater am Frankfurter Tor” (formerly “Theater Berliner Schnauze”) at Karl-Marx-Allee 133 in Friedrichshain.

DIRECTIONS: This place is a stroke of luck. Not off the beaten path, but right in the thick of it. Take the U5 from the Brandenburg Gate or Alexanderplatz to the Weberwiese subway station, climb the stairs, and you’ll find yourself in the midst of the ornate architecture of Karl-Marx-Allee in Friedrichshain. From there, it’s just a few steps to the large windows of the bright theater lobby. If driving, park at the “Parkhaus Kosmos”—it’s just a 1-minute walk from there.
