Photos of manhole covers from all over the world

They are run over, stepped on and noticed by very few people: manhole covers. The Berlin media designer Stefan Paubel (71) has been photographing historical manhole covers all over the world for ten years.

Manhole covers cover the manholes of the sewers, some of which are up to 150 years old.

During his travels, Paubel tracks down the lids, some of which are beautiful, and photographs them. To date he has published three large books on the subject.

The collection of manhole cover photos includes 25,000 copies.

Travelers now send him their photos from places like Japan, Australia and the USA.
