based on Henrik Ibsen - a production by mit.mach.Bühne
The water of the spa, the source of prosperity and hope, is poisoned. When a group of activists discovers this, they find themselves in the firing line of the media and political powers. A battle ensues over truth, morality, and the dominance of public opinion in the town, until finally the entire town community becomes politicized and believes it can distinguish between friend and foe.
Henrik Ibsen's 1882 play An Enemy of the People sharply exposes the mechanisms of power and powerlessness in a competitive capitalist society.
In this adaptation, thirty people stand on stage and collectively ask the question:
- How much truth can a society longing for security tolerate?
- Which voices are heard – and which are silenced?
An evening about courage and isolation, about democracy under stress and the eternal temptation to suppress the uncomfortable.
- Directed by Oliver Toktasch & Lukas David Schmidt
- Featuring the mit.mach.Bühne ensemble
The mit.mach.Bühne offerings are free of charge. Donations at the box office are welcome.
