Exhibition opening, 35 years East Side Gallery
The Berlin Wall Foundation invites you to the opening of the special exhibition on the 35th anniversary of the East Side Gallery. The exhibition traces the changes to the Wall paintings and the controversies surrounding the preservation of the monument.
From the first sketch and the opening on September 28, 1990, to the gradual decay and restorations to the present day, the artworks are accompanied through the decades.
Looking at how the monument has been treated to date raises questions for the future: What is the way forward for the East Side Gallery and what will it take to preserve the world's longest open-air exhibition in the long term?
Welcome by Prof. Dr. Klausmeier, Director of the Berlin Wall Foundation, followed by a moderated discussion with artists of the East Side Gallery.
